Japan Blog 38 (December 10, 2008) Hazukashi no Hi

I was just looking at my list of subscribers now and I saw a few people that I have NO IDEA why they would subscribe to me. Literally. If I gave you the names you would think the exact same thing as me. Sure, I'm happy, but it's really really odd. haha If I could meet these people too, I would be extremely happy (not that that gives much of a hint).

But today was just plan strange.

Our school got 5 new exchange students today. I think they're with AFS (once you're an exchange student you suddenly become aware of all the other exchange programs out there. It's weird, I never knew this stuff before). One from Indonesia, 2 from Australia, one from the Philippines, and one from Thailand. The girl from Indonesia is in my class, they went to whatever class their host sister is in, and Kanako took her in. These exchange students are only in Japan for like 2 weeks though. It's more like a traveling experience for them and they're only going to school for 4 days. She came in today during lunch. To tell you the truth I seriously thought Indonesian people were like everyone else (in how they dress, that is). I had no idea what to expect. Since they're only here for 4 days they don't have a uniform, so when I saw her walk in I was a little surprised. I didn't know Indonesian girls wore those cloths over their heads, too. I always thought it was in like Arab and India and such. Then again if Indonesia is right next to those countries it makes more sense to me. I don't know geography (I even always thought New Zealand was in the north in Europe by Norway and them).

But today was Wednesday (gosh I love these days and Thursday) so we had to move to the other building like always for the English classes. The Indonesian girl's name is Ajan. Well, Ajan was sent to the Sadou Club room. All the new exchange students went there at that time and Nora was there as well (odd). So, my guess was that they were being showed the tea ceremony customs and since Nora memorized it already and speaks English maybe that's why she was in there?? I don't know and I don't care. Today was the good English classes. I wouldn't dare miss them (not that I could). And I was thrown into a laughing fit. They always have to memorize these short conversations and then say them to the class. They can never really memorize them and it's funny when they turn to the class and have the look of 'help me' and then we're all trying to whisper the next words. It's always like that but today I couldn't stop laughing at just the way Rina and some other people were pronouncing their sentences. Sure, I always laugh and I thought today was no different but people were actually looking at me this time. Chihiro's laughing at me asking me why I'm laughing, then Rina chimes in, and so on.

Today was like comedy day for me. And I unfortunately became the comedy in the end haha. My English book's pages (it's really a workbook) are folded and I've drawn scribbles and weird nothing-pictures and Chihiro and Kanako were going through it saying, 'kitanai' (messy/dirty/etc.). I got my one English test back. I got a 47 ^_^ (50 is the highest score here). Kei and Shiori were like, Tasha, you know English! You should have gotten perfect! Yeah, I was shocked, too. I forgot to write 'from' on 6 sentences when saying what years this person lived 'from'. I'm an idiot. Next English class! The lets-read-English-books class. Ajan came to this class. Everyone was acting weird around me today. I'm walking up the stairs to the next class and Lettuce starts lightly flipping up my skirt. Noooo!!! I get in class, we start studying for the vocab quiz, and everyone around me (and those who visit us) are just talking to me but like about funny, stupid things. I always love Wednesdays and Thursdays because of these classes. I talk to the people I hardly talk to every other day during these classes A LOT. Anyway, Ajan wants to see the Kyuudou Club. She was ecstatic to hear it was here. So, now I have to take her tomorrow. I need to take the bus. Great. OH! And today I finally shot an arrow!!! (I'm glad I skipped out out Sadou now^^) I was sooo happy when Asai-san (the old guy in charge there) told Ikumi and Akane I could shoot at this straw thing in the wall. Unfortunately, I only did it once (;_;) After I did it when I went to do it again everything went wrong with my hands. I have to turn them a certain way and they wouldn't turn anymore (why I don't know and I'm mad >_

To end off the comedy for the day it was after cleaning. I was with my group in the History classroom (I NEVER see that room in use. Why is it even there and why do we have to clean it??) and I headed back to the classroom and I haven't seen Mizuki all day so I hugged her and said morning. She told me I'm like a Japanese person now. haha. Then I don't remember what happened but then Lettuce chased me out of the classroom. I wish I remembered how that started. I was in the hall and she was blocking my entrance to get in. From behind me I suddenly hear 2 people screaming but before I could turn they ran into me. It was Ayaka and Kanako. Then they started helping Lettuce in not letting me in. There's 2 entrances into the classroom so I quickly ran into that one and someone (I think it was Lettuce) chased me around the desks in the classroom. Something was wrong with everyone today. Mizuki and Kei needed me to do some translation for Ajan since she knows like no Japanese and I had to say camel to them but like I know the word for that. So I tried to bend down and put 2 lumps on my back with my hands and then I hear Mari say my name. OhMyGod. That was embarrassing. She's like, 'pantsu, pantsu'. My face flushed and I started laughing while apologizing. Everyone found it funny while I'm there saying, 'hazukashii' (embarrassing) over and over and over. Mizuki trys to grab my face to feel how hot it is saying something about how red I was. Mari comes and hugs me then saying it was cute. That was not cute I told her. I had shorts on. They were my shorts they saw, they were just short. Still. Then when I was leaving school with my Kyuudou friends Mari passed me up saying, 'byebye pantsu'. Great. This isn't going to live down. At most 10 people saw all that. Wonderful. (haha but it was all still funny. An interesting day, that's for sure)

I love Japan^^
