I was just thinking if you want to read all my blogs you can subscribe... if you haven't already. And sorry but this one is going to be a bit long. A lot of description today ^_^
So yesterday was a quick start. I ate breakfast only to be shipped away 10 mins later by my otoo-san and Tompi. I didn't know where I was going but it was 40 mins away. Yesterday I accomplished finding out what the heck it is my otoo-san does for a living. He builds houses ^_^ Where this house was that he was taking me to was in Old Hitachi City. It's the first view I had of the countryside. I have video. And that car ride was my first experence of motion sickness in Japan. Not sure if that's a good thing...? So, I got to see his house. It was still in construction but it was nicce. Bigger than my home here but I think the bathroom was going to be smaller. And in this house was the SMOOTHEST piece of wood I have EVER felt. This wood. Was smooth. Super smooth. Sorry, but I could have rubbed it all day haha. There was some lady who knew english there as well. I only talked with her for a few moments. Then we were off again! I thought on our way home but nope. We went to a ice cream shop [it made ramen and crepes too].
My otoo-san knew the lady there and when we arrived she was making a crepe, the REAL way to make a crepe. When I made them with Ai and Satchiko we used a frying pan to get the, what word is that, um, well the wrap really, to get a round circle. At this place there was a circle that was bascally a frying pan without the sides and handles. The lady poured the batter onto it then she grabbed this wooden stick thing and kinda like spun the batter into a circle where it then cooked. You have to be fast with it because this batter doesn't take long to cook. She then flipped it and was done. Otoo-san says "Japanese crepe challenge". Now I thought, is he serious? Or did he just mean it's a challenge to make? Tompi directed me to the stove thing and I was told to make a crepe. IT'S HARD! I poured the batter but once it came to the spinning, I'm sorry but I didn't have a crepe. Tompi tryed next. She was better than me but she spilled hers over the side a bit. Another lady came to me and said to make another. No. I'm bad at this. Are you serious? She held my hand the entire time trying to show me how to make it. It canme out better than the first but still it was bad :( After that I was directed agin behind the counter to get a ice cream [or so I thought] I had the cone and she told me to pull the lever down and out came the so-called ice cream. I smelled it cause it was blue. This wasn't ice cream. I tried it and it was hard and it tasted... kinda funny. I found out it was Ramune. You know that drink they sell at FYE? It's that in ice cream form. Ramune otoo-san said is a traditional Japanese drink. I didn't know that soda was so traditional. But it doesn't taste good with the cone.
When I came home I had lunch. Takoayki [octopus balls - balls as in breaded] !!!! I love takoyaki ^_^ Okaa-san made shitake mushrooms with it but I really didn't like that. But I know, I know, most people wanna know about my school. Yeah, that was today. But not yet. After lunch I listened to Taichiro [that's the one son. He's actually been here for a few days now I just haven't mentioned it] play his acustic guitar, then the four of us played blackjack and old maid. When we played blackjack though we had a punishment game. The Japanese really love to inflict pain, my gosh. Who ever lost we all got to smack the inside of their arm reallyyy hard. They went soft on me, not trying to hurt me, I did the same [in the beginning] not sure if I was rude to do it. Poor Tompi though. Taichiro was hitting her super hard she had his fingers imprinted in her skin the rest of the day. My arm was red. I guess my skin isn't used to such impact haha. It was funny to see everyone wince in pain and everyone ws having fun so I guess it was alright haha.
Then the big day.
I was taken to my school. The awfully big school. And it was super nice. But now I'm scared as hell. School. School. I won't understand a thing. I found out that they put me a class where the students take like 9 english classes a week so they'll have a understanding which is good. You know, this class in October is going on a field trip to Hawaii and I can't go. How unfair haha. But okay, so then I had to try on a uniform. Okaa-san's like, they're really cute, before we got there. NO. Cute on a Japanese girl. It doesn't work with a foreigner. I looked terrible. I'm not even sure if i should take a picture and post it. Not to mention it doesn't even really fit me. They're making me wear the skirt higher to make up for the extra space. Wtf? It's uglyyyyy. I had to go to some other place to get newer ones too cause the one's the school had didn't work out well. Oh, and my skirt is aganist dress code. I'm too tall making my skirt shorter. Greatt. I got my books, and just fliping through the pageswas scary. I'll have to take a picture of that. Everything is kanji. EVERYTHING. I can't read it. I saw my english book though ^_^ yay for 9 classses of english a week! I went to another store and had to get the school gym outfit, sneakers for gym, shoes for when I walk inside the building, oh my god this was getting expensive, and that stuff wasn't rental like the books and uniform. But I wasn't done.
After school I helped Ai and Tompi make curry. I was bad at it. It tasted amazinggg though. If I was asked what my favorite Japanese food is right now, it's deffinitly the curry. Then I went shopping for school. You know that blog I posted when I found out where I was going in Japan and all those pictures I added? Remember that mall? Last night I was in that mall. That mall is HUMONGOUS [sorry for my poor spelling]. I'm not even kidding. It wasn't like a mall in America. It was really like four malls in one mall. Like, how to explain... There's one mall, then you go outside to like this walking area and walk into another mall. Yeah, that's about right. I got socks, pencils, notebooks [I'm not allowed notbooks with the spiral wire], a super cute bento box ^_^ , a school bag [for some reason it's a playboy bag], a skirt belt [don't ask me what it is I'm still confused myself. I guess it just holds up your skirt] , and yeah. My okaa-san also bought me a pair of socks, cute socks, just to wear whenever.
But I feel sooo guilty. Like I said I would pay. Okaa-san said the Rotary was paying for it. There's no way Rotary would pay for all of this. I don't think you realize how expensive this was getting. My one pair of shoes was 4,750 yen that's rounded to about $47. I'm the idiot and picked them when there was cheaper ones. I regret choosing them right now. I'm an idiot :/ Last night didn't seem right after that. Like, I think okaa-san was mad about it all. Something didn't feel right. Plus, I don't think she was as friendly either. When we got home she was hardly with us and I think went to sleep early. I don't know. But I feel bad. Maybe she only meant the bag and skirt belt Rotary was only paying for. I regret not asking again when we were buying pencils if I should pay. I don't like this tension. Makes me kinda wanna come back... I hope it all goes away today... I don't know... Then again, I guess this is just one of the steps in a home stay. Of course he family willl ge mad, people can't stay happy the entire time, but I wish I wasn't one of the reasons...
Before I end this I wanna say something about the car. My otoo-san's car has a tv. It's not a normal tv. This tv is in his dashboard for one thing and dashboards in a Japanese car in in the middle, not infront of the driver like America. But about this tv, it has gps navagation, cable [I was amazed that we were flipping through channels], and there's a camera somewhere in the back of the car under it so then when you go to back up this tv shows under your car to make sure you don't hit a curb or something. I was amazed!!
Great... school tomorrow...
