Japan Blog 3 (Aug. 27, 2008)

The birds here...

They literally say "WA". It's freaking weird.

I'm really loving it here.

Unfortunately I seem to be super tired :/ and I know it's not jet lag. Actually, I don't really think I even got that since I made sure to get enough sleep on the plane. During the orientations that I had to go to back in January, Rotary said just trying to comprehend what people are saying will tier

The morning started off with us visiting the grandparents. They live next door. I was nervous and I didn't know why. Maybe because you're supposed to be super respectful to the elders and I thought I was rude even when I first entered. My okaa-san said I was quiet. While I was there Ai and their obaa-chan [grandmother] made green tea the way you always see geishas making it. I couldn't get a good view but it looked hard. I was also given Sweet Bean Paste as a snack there. I said it was oishii [good/delicious] but really, I don't think I could manage to eat it again. I didn't want to say I hated it in front of the grandparents.

Then there was some guy who spoke english that my okaa-san asked me to meet. He was over at their business. I still don't know why even now why I had to talk to him. Maybe so I knew he knew english? I don't know, but I was sooo happy to finally be able to speak it again. Japanese is hard! Then again I haven't been studying since I got here either :/

After we went to Ai's school, we returned our rented movies [Shin-chan and some other weird movie about a guy wanting a geisha to marry or something. I didn't quite understand it], I saw the Code Geass mangas [woo! I shall buy it eventually] and bought a milk tea. This was good, yet kinda not. I'm not sure how to explain what I think of it but it's veryyy different.

For anyone who doesn't have a Wii, there's a slot in it where you can put a SD card in [the card for your pictures in your camera]. They were looking at my videos and pictures that I had on it and they stumbled across a video from YMCA summer camp [goods times right?] haha. Mason was in the video [so were you Lexy] trying to get on a swing, not accomplishing this. They thought it was the cutest thing. Then again Mason is pretty cute no matter how annoying he was. And they liked his train noises. Tompi was singing the tune to Evagelion [an anime] and I was like "ima eiga o motteru" [i have that movie now]. I really did. I brought the Evangelion "The End of Evangelion" movie and Spirited Away with me. So then we started watching Spirited Away with Tompi's friend, Mau. Otoo-san wanted to take us to the ocean but Ai didn't want to go so it was only me, Tompi and Mau. I think Mau was scared of me. She didn't talk to me like Ai's friend Satchiko did. Satchiko is super friendly.

So, we went to the ocean. This was my second time. Okaa-san took me 2 days ago on the prettier side of it. Unfortunately I don't have pictures from then :( But it was still nice. Mau's shoe drifted away [I have video of that] and Tompi had to retrieve it. They also filled a soda bottle with sea water. I was confused why. In the car I thought Tompi said they were gunna make soda with it. When I repeated soda she nodded. After the fact when I realized we weren't making soda I realized "soda" sounds a hell of a lot alike like "sou da" which means "oh, i see". In the end we made salt. Yeah, huge difference. They boiled the water, drained it, boiled it again and eventually we got salt. Sea salt. It was interesting. Mau went home and another friend arrived. Satchiko! haha She's cool.

I got to see her and Ai play piano, they're really good. Then we went to the grocery store with otoo-san. We were going to cook something, I found out it was crepes. At the grocery store otoo-san told me to pick out a ice cream. I searched down then... Pino was there. -gasp- MUST HAVE IT. [only a certain few of you know what Pino is so I'll explain why I wanted it. In Perfume's music video "Secret Secret", you can view it on my profile, Perfume is advertising this ice cream. I needed it haha] So I got it. -sigh- It wasn't as great as they made it look :( I was filled with disappointment but at least I tried it ^_^

So we started to make crepes, Ai burnt her fingers a few times, Satchiko helping her, Tompi making the cream. I helped stir the cream, it took forever to make i wasn't getting thick fast enough! Another friend came over of Ai's and Satchiko's named Ayano. The table was filled with Japanese. My brain wasn't comprehending anything but it was still fun. I found out they were talking about this boy who's Ayano's friend but was acting weird. They tried to tell me in English what they were talking about. It didn't quite work but I think I understood. They showed me the picture of the friend and he is CUTE. haha I told them that and they laughed. I had to eventually leave. The Japanese was overwhelming. I was already tired.

Then the day ended with Ai and Tompi and me trying to watch this scary movie or show. I thought it was a movie, I mean they DID say it was, but it did not play out like one. And I didn't understand any of it of course. Just trying to made me sleepy. I found out I ended up falling asleep. Tompi was looking at me when I woke up saying "neru" [sleep/sleeping]. I sorta exploded with a "neta?" [I slept?] and they said yeah. It wasn't even 10 when that happened. Took my awesome Japanese bath, watched some more TV with them [I was more awake now] then went to sleep eventually.

Exciting day right? Way too busy, sorta. Today I have to meet with my teacher at 3. If I get my uniform I'll upload a picture wearing it. Lets see how ugly it really is :/ Oh and here is a picture of the hole in my wall. As you can see the drill even peeled the wall a bit. I would take one of the outside too but then the family would notice and might think something I don't want them too. Not to mention as me, Tompi, and Mau walked past it after going to the ocean I saw Tompi look at it until it was out of view. Waves of guilt filled me :(
